Torres Hockey Squad Identified Goalkeeper attends Cairns Hockey Goalkeeping Clinic
On Saturday 23rd May 2009, Ben McKeown the Torres Hockey squad Goalkeeper was invited by Cairns Hockey to attend their specialized goalkeeping clinic. Ben from Horn Island in the Torres Strait plays goalkeeper for the Horn Island Hockey Team in the Migi Kokan Hockey Competition

Ben was named best player of the Finals in last year's Migi Kokan Hockey Competition and trains with his Horn Island Hockey Coach - Michael Alexander every week.
Ben is part of the Torres Hockey Squad attneding a 3 day Hockey Development Camp in Cairns. 14 athletes and 4 coaches have learned advanced hockey skills on the international hockey facility in Cairns.
Sport and Recreation Queensland supported the program by running workshops entitled eating and nutrition for peak performance and Cheryl McCallister from Cairns Hockey also spoke to the group about avoiding serious injury.
The Squad played a team from Port Douglas and highlighted the skills and teamwork they have gained through the camp.
The Remote Hockey Program is looking to further advance this program by partnering GSRA Inc and the Gulf Savannah communities in a Cape -v- Gulf Challenge in the JUne/July school holidays.
