Saturday Morning Hockey begins in Karumba
Parents, teachers and community organizations have joined together to begin regular Saturday Morning Hockey at the Karumba Recreation and Golf Club.
This is all part of the Term 3 Hockey Program being delivered in communities through-out Gulf Savannah.
' Parents and Children alike were very excited about having Saturday morning sports activity - just like in a real town or city." according to Mag Jarman from the Karumba Rec Club.
Karumba Recreation and Golf Club is now the established home of hockey with 2 fields marked out across the 1st fairway.
"For most of the younger children, it was their first experience playing hockey and they really enjoyed it.
It was great to see a couple of reluctant children trying hard and being successful at hockey.
Lots of parents stayed and watched the session."
In September 2009 - the Rec Club will host the Karumba Hockey Festival and the Festival of Sport. This is a regional school hockey competition played between Gulf savannah communities from Garde 3 to grade 7.
Talent Identified Squads will be selected to attend Development Camps and compete in the Gulf -v- Cape/Torres Challenge - an annual event played between the hockey programs in the Gulf and Cape and Torres Strait Island hockey programs.
