Hockey Begins on Badu Island - Torres Strait
For the first time in the Island history, the sport of hockey will be delivered as an authorized community program during term 3. This follows an Australian first coaching course as a partnership between Tagai College, Tagai and Tropical North Queensland Tafe and Hockey Queensland.
The program will see up to 70 young people from grades 3 through to 7 learning new skills and competiting in modified programs based on the Hook in2 Hockey Program.
The young people will be split into 2 groups - Grade 3 and 4 in one group and Grades 5 to 7 in the other. Programs will be delivered twice a week for the whole of term 3 and there is a possibility that a team will travel to Thursday Island in November 2009 to participate in the Migi Kokan Competition.
