Supporters at the Festival

What is the Festival of Sports?

· It is a chance for our students to compete against other students in the Gulf

· It is an opportunity for our students to gain skills, fitness and friendship

What Sports will Played this Year?

· Hockey: As always hockey will remain a key focus for the Festival of Sports, with many matches, finals and grand finals .

· Basketball:  An exciting basketball competition will be held under lights at the Sports Centre.

· Play For Life: This provides all students in years 3-7 the opportunity to develop a range of sporting skills and cater for their love of sport.

Who Supports The Festival of Sports?

· PCAP provides financial assistance to Gulf Schools to travel to Karumba

· Hockey Qld provides referees, expertise, trophies

· AASC works to provide health and fitness support

What About the Children?

· The Festival of Sport is for the children; its fun, fit and fantastic

· There will be hockey, basketball, general sports skill development and fitness

· Possible selection in the Hockey Squad

The timing of the Carnival should see the conditions being cooler, so the children can participate more comfortably

·

Why is it Different this Year?

· Funding from PCAP requires programs to be ‘innovated’ after a certain number of years of being run at schools.

· Our innovation was to ‘spotlight’ hockey and its pathway to representative positions (Hockey Squad), but keep basketball at night, because the children love it!

· The Rec Club has been developed into a hockey center and has wonderful facilities for our children to use.
