Burketown win the Karumba Hockey Grade 6,7 for the first time
A hard fought final saw Burketown beat Karumba in one of the best games of hockey played at the festival. It took 2 sets of extra time drop offs and a set of one on one's to break the deadlock
Burketown scored the first goal but karumba fought back and equalized in the second half. Both teams had their chances to score but good defending and great saves by the goalkeepers saw the scores level at the end of regulation time.
The game was played in good spirits with both teams having good support that enhanced the festival atmosphere.
Karumba did not leave emply handed with their Grade 4,5 team winning the junior competition against a very close and competitive Georgetown
All teams competing this year should be congratulated for their sense of fair play, fun and friendship and an improvement of the hockey skills overall.
Thanks to all the parents, community supporters and teachers for supporting this competition.
A Gulf Squad was named to play development games in Cairns and also to travel to the Torres Strait in 2010.
