Remote Program and Cairns Hockey partners in hockey programs looking to increase indigenous participation
The current hockey program being delivered by Chris Lucas Benn from the Remote Hockey Program is looking at ways to develop new pathways for young people to play hockey as part of the Club structure within Cairns Hockey Association.
The hockey program currently being played at Edge Hill, Whitefield and Parramatta Park will be reviewed and in 2010, representatives from Clubs will be encouraged to participate to encourage young people to join hockey clubs and participate in regular competition.
There is currently in excess of 70 young people participating in a 5 week program to develop new skills, increase the level of physical activity and learn team leadership skills.
The Hockey Program has the flexibility to work with school and tailor a program that meets the needs of the school and it's students while looking to facilitate a pathway for club development.
