Bamaga PCYC now included hockey in school holiday programs
In the recent school holiday programs - hockey programs were included in the program schedule. The Bamaga PCYC is delivering the hockey program as part of their after school and vacation care programs and the young people are really enjoying themselves.
Bamaga Hockey Program
This Program used Rookey gear supplied by the Remote and Indigneous Hockey Program as an introduction to the sport.
Hockey Programs are usually scheduled through July-Nov in each year culminating in the Migi Kokan Hockey competition on Thursday Island.
In 2011 however we have seen added interest and involvement at a local area after hockey was invited to the Sports Expo in September 2011 and representatives attended the "Challenge of Change" workshops in November 2010. This workshop focused on how remote and indigneous hockey programs could better support the local community programs and how to involve the younger generation in these programs.
Nola Lewin the NPA hockey coordinator with CAPE PCYC in Bamaga is attending the advanced coaching workshop in Cairns on 21 and 22 May 2011 as part of the ongoing support program and advancement of hockey opportunities in this region.
