2011 Mount Isa Regional Hockey Program
Delivery of Hockey in the Mount Isa Regional Areas will be undertaken through a partnership with the Australian Sports Commission - AASC Program, the Mount Isa Hockey Association, PCYC and Remote Hockey Program. The current program plan is outlined here and subject to additional funding ( decision pending), these plans will be developed further with additional information being advised in due course

After the members of the remote and indigneous hockey program visited and delviered hockey programs in the region - it was apparent that the hockey program regionally and in Mount Isa itlsef is healthy and looking to develop.

MOUNT ISA READY TO HOST THE INAUGRAL NO SCHOOL NO PLAY HOCKEY CHALLENGE
The 2011 North West Hockey Regional Competition is the first to host the NO SCHOOL NO PLAY Hockey Challenge. This competition is designed to offer opportunities to many young people living in isolated and disadvantaged communities within remote Queensland and in 2011 it has the added value of encouraging and promoting the importance of attending school on a reular basis.
2011 NO SCHOOL NO PLAY HOCKEY CHALLENGE - A COMMUNITY SUCCESS STORY
On the 16th June 2011, the first regional hockey competition was played as part of the new and emerging hockey program across remote and isolated communities in North West Queensland. This was the conclusion of the hockey program which began as a concept debated at the 2010 Remote and Indigenous Hockey Program - CHALLENGE OF CHANGE Workshop and an example of a highly successful community inclusion program.
Mount Isa Hockey host first carnival in 15 years
During the 16th -18th June 2011 Mount Isa Hockey Association in partnership with Remote and Indigenous Hockey hosted a series of hockey carnivals and events - the first in this region for 15 years.
Holiday Hockey Program begins in Karumba
Up to 40 Participants from Burketown, Normanton and Karumba will be attending the Holiday Hockey Program at the Karumba Rec Club. Wes Ferns and Dalassa Savage will join the Vacation Care Team at GSRA Inc to deliver a week of having fun, learning new skills and making new friends

Karumba Holiday Hockey Program
A partnership between GSRA Inc and Remote and Indigenous Hockey Program to support the emerging hockey program in the Gulf Savannah through holiday hockey camps
Teams from across the Gulf Savannah ready for the Karumba Hockey Carnival
12 teams have nominated to compete in the 2011 Karumba Hockey Festival to be played on the upgraded fields at the Karumba Recreation Club. The communities of Mornington island, Burketown, Normanton, Croydon and Georgetown will join Karumba to display new and improved hockey skills as a result of the Hook in2 Hockey Program being delivered in all communities. More information will be available in the following weeks.

Increased Hockey skills a highlight of the Karumba Hockey Competition
On day 1 of the Karumba Hockey Carnival is was evident that the increased training being provided through partnerships with AASC AND GSRA INC is paying dividends. The upgrading of facilities and field preparations supported by the Carpentaria Shire Council also plays a significant role. The increase in hockey skills combined with better game sense ensures for a strong hockey competition.
Cairns School of Distance Education competing at Karumba Hockey Festival
The culmination of opprtunities provided through Remote and Indigenous Hockey sees young parents and their families from some of the most isolated communities joining together and competing as a team at the karumba hockey competition. These students join with other school students from all over the Gulf to form composite teams to ensure everyone has the opportunity to be involved and compete.
Normanton are the 2011 Gulf Hockey Champions
Normanton won a closely contested Grade 6/7 Hockey Final against Burketown to be named 2011 Gulf Hockey Champions. Normanton got the double when their grade3/4/5 team beat Karumba in the junior final. A big thank you to all the volunteers and parents who supported this competition which was the largest in the competitions history. 13 teams, 9 communities and over 120 players competed. A Gulf Hockey Team has been named and will play a series of 3 games agianst Mount Isa and North West in October 2011.
Hockey in the Park - a partnership with Cairns Regional Council
The Remote and Indigenous Hockey Program will begin delivering introductory hockey and small games in Shand St Park in a new partnership with Cairns Regional Council designed to support active particpation in a safe place.
Gulf Hockey Regional Team getting ready for the Mount Isa Challenge
The team selected at the recent Karumba Festival of Hockey will travel to Mount Isa on the 28th October 2011 and play a series of inter regional challenge hockey matches against the emerging Mount Isa and North West Program

On the 29th and 20th October 2011, Remote and Indigenous Hockey will be conducting reviews and future planning workshops for hockey programs in the North West and Gulf Savannah regions of Queensland

After a series of challenge matches played in Mount Isa on 29th and 30th October 2011, Gulf Hockey was too strong for the emerging Mount Isa Team and won the SCORE GOALS FOR GOOD HEALTH Regional Hockey Challenge Congratulations to all who participated.
SCORE GOALS FOR GOOD HEALTH REGIONAL HOCKEY WORKSHOP - A REAL SUCCESS
Mount Isa Hockey with the assistance and support of the remote and indigenous hockey program has agreed on a plan to begin regular junior hockey competition in Mount Isa in 2012. All parties are working very hard towards this exciting outcome and we thank all the parents/volunteers/community representatives, Mount isa Hockey Representatives and Remote Hockey members for their hard work and excellent involvement in this initiative.
