Development Officer Course
EDUCATION AND TRAINING OF REMOTE HOCKEY DEVELOPMENT OFFICERS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CAIRNS TAFE
Develop the Course to assist community people deliver the hockey programs in their own communities and advance education and training programs meet the community needs.
Target specifically grade 11 and 12 students so they can gain credits for senior certificate and also deliver programs to primary school in their own community. Accredited in the Vocational Education and Training.
Produce Development Officers to compliment the General Program in the Short Term and provide additional opportunities for further education and training in the medium term.
PARTNERSHIP WITH CAIRNS TAFE – MORE ABOUT THE COURSE
- Units included in the Community Recreation and Sports Packages currently offered at the Tafe institutions that form the basis for a Certificate 2 course.
- Completion of the Remote Hockey Coaching Course – a Hockey Specific coaching course specifically designed to deliver coaching programs in remote and indigenous communities which includes:-
- NCAS Beginners Hockey Accreditation
- Reference Indigenous Games relating to Hockey and using these as cross training tools.
- Modified Delivery of Programs taking into account resources, facilities and equipment
- Modified Language considerations
- Introducing Hockey Sessions into a “New Community – basic principle on how to introduce hockey as a new sport into the community.
- Basic health fitness and nutrition and the importance of keeping active
Cairns Tafe will deliver this course to the identified people in the remote communities.
Upon completion of the course the students will obtain
- Certificate 2 in Community/Sport and Recreation
- NCAS Beginners Coach – Hockey with additional credits recognized as above
- Once you have this certificate, you can use the units as credits for higher courses in the Training Package - Sport and Recreation and other areas or in the future hockey might want to develop their own higher courses as well.

- Remember you don’t have to come from a remote community to undertake this course but you will have the skills to develop hockey in the remote communities and more importantly you will have taken the first step in advancing your career in the sports industry.
