Hockey to be part of Sports Expo in the NPA
The sports expo being conducted by the PCYC in the NPA will include hockey, afl and rugby league. The expo beings on Monday 4th October 2010 and finishes Wednesday 6th October 2010.
Hockey will deliver coaching clinics, community engagement and leadership programs and will assist to support the community message that increased physical activity and healthy eating will assist greatly in reducing the chance
Commonwealth Health figures confirm that the NPA has one of the highest percentages of chronic illnesses amoung young people not only in Queensland but through-out Australia.
Encouraging young people to try new sporting activities and involve themselves in the upcoming hockey competition across the Torres Strait Islands and NPA is a good first step.
Ena Waianga a trainee indigenous hockey development officer will be accompanying Julie McNeil and will assist in the delivery of school clinics, competitions and discusions with community to begin a community hockey competition at the PCYC.
