Gambling Community Benefit FundThe GCBF receives money from taxes on Golden Casket lotteries, wagering, keno and gaming machines. It distributes these funds to community projects on a quarterly basis. The GCBF is just one way the Government returns taxes received from gambling activities. In redistributing gambling taxes through its grants program, the GCBF plays an important role in ensuring, on balance, the whole State benefits from gambling in Queensland.

Children in Care Initiative

In response to community feedback about the funding criteria for the one-off funding (2010 calendar year) for sports registration for children in care, the Minister for Child Safety and Minister for Sport has approved amendments to eligibility for sport registration funding for children in care to allow: the provision of uniforms for children in care who participate in sport and recreation activity during the life of the funding program; participation in all sport and recreation activity by children in care including scouts, guides and cadets; and participation in swimming lessons by all children in care, with no restriction to the number of lessons as long as it is within the $300 funding limit.

Funding Opportunity for Young people in far North Queensland

I wanted to let you guys know about the Far North Queensland Youth Assistance Fund (FNQYAF). The Far North Queensland Youth Assistance Fund can provide grants for nominated young people under the age of 21 up to a maximum of $3,000 per individual to support, promote and encourage their artistic, educational or sporting potential. Students may re-apply each year until they reach 21. If they are 21 in the middle or end of the year they can apply that year as well. Past recipients have advised that the financial assistance really assisted. The grants focus on providing support and opportunity to young people who come from low socio economic backgrounds to give the assistance where its much needed. Young people located between Cardwell to Thursday Island and west towards Normanton can apply and there are many categories and grants available. Please go to www.fnqyaf.org.au for more information. To assist sport and recreation organisations, the Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program supports not-for-profit sport and recreation organisations with relief efforts to re-establish their facilities and activities. This program provides funding to the eligible organisations that are within areas declared under the Queensland Government Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
