Additional Opportunities created with partnership between Remote Hockey and Commonwealth Government

the new funding will allow expansion of the already existing regional competition in Far North Queensland and Torres Strait Islands

The partnership entitled " Be Active, Score Goals, Play Hockey" is designed to build on the already existing community relationships with schools, active after school community programs, vacation care programs and education and training programs to provide access to wide spread active participation, competition and talent identification through the program areas of Gulf Savannah and Cape/Torres Strait Island communities.

An integral part of the funding will see an appointment of an indigenous/islander trainee to work in partnership with communities, hockey associations and the remote program with a view to identify pathways of oppportunities.

The Remote Program will now have an opportunity of expanding the Hockey Australia national participation strategy - Hook in 2 Hockey into more communities and engage the communiy through Hockey Art to deliver health, fitness, anti smoking and other social and culturally significant messages.

Planning will begin shortly with all community partners for the 2010 Programs.
